Rhinoplasty, Breast Augmentation, and Facelift Costs in China and the United States
A careful comparison of published cosmetic-surgery prices, including what the China packages cover and what U.S. surgeon-fee estimates leave out.
Published prices suggest that rhinoplasty and facelifts may cost less in China, while breast augmentation prices overlap more. The figures below are not perfectly equivalent: the China ranges are package estimates, while the U.S. ranges are surgeon fees before several major expenses are added.
| Treatment | China | USA |
|---|---|---|
| Augmentation rhinoplasty | $3,500-$7,000Published package estimate from partner hospitals in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou | $7,500-$12,5002024 ASPS projected surgeon-fee range; anesthesia, facility, and related expenses are additional |
| Breast augmentation with implants | $5,000-$9,500Published package estimate; implant type and brand can materially change the quote | $4,575-$8,0002024 ASPS projected surgeon-fee range; implants, anesthesia, facility, and related expenses are additional |
| Full SMAS facelift | $8,000-$18,000Published package estimate; the surgical scope can vary substantially | $12,000-$19,0002024 ASPS projected surgeon-fee range; anesthesia, facility, and related expenses are additional |
About these prices
The China source says its ranges include the surgeon, anesthesiologist, operating room, one or two hospital nights, initial postoperative medication, and one follow-up visit in China. It excludes international flights, hotel accommodation, and translation services. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes its U.S. figures as surgeon or physician fees, not complete procedure prices. Cosmetic procedures are generally paid out of pocket, and neither set of figures is a guaranteed quote.
The midpoint comparison is about $5,250 versus a $10,000 U.S. surgeon fee for rhinoplasty, $7,250 versus a $6,288 U.S. surgeon fee for breast augmentation, and $13,000 versus a $15,500 U.S. surgeon fee for a facelift. Because the China estimates include more services, these midpoint differences should not be presented as exact savings.
Public and private prices in Shanghai
A separate 2026 Shanghai guide publishes lower estimates for public hospitals than for private clinics. Its public-hospital ranges are $3,500-$6,300 for rhinoplasty, $4,200-$7,700 for breast augmentation, and $4,900-$9,100 for a facelift. The same guide lists private-clinic ranges of $4,900-$11,200, $6,300-$12,600, and $7,700-$16,800 respectively.
These are reference ranges from a medical-travel service, not official citywide averages. Public hospitals may offer lower prices and experienced specialists, but appointments, English-language support, privacy, and scheduling can be less convenient. International patients should confirm whether the public-hospital quote is available through the ordinary department or an international service pathway.
Why the procedure name is not enough
Rhinoplasty
An implant-only augmentation, tip surgery, osteotomy, septal work, rib-cartilage reconstruction, and revision rhinoplasty are different operations with different costs. Ask the surgeon to describe every planned change and material in writing.
Breast augmentation
Confirm the implant manufacturer, model, surface, shape, size, warranty, and whether the price covers both implants. A breast lift, fat transfer, nipple procedure, or correction of asymmetry can add separate fees.
Facelift
A mini facelift, full SMAS facelift, deep-plane facelift, neck lift, eyelid surgery, and fat grafting do not describe the same scope. Quotes should identify the facial areas, surgical technique, and any combined procedures.
How to compare written quotes
Request an itemized estimate covering the surgeon, assistant, anesthesia, operating room, implants or graft materials, tests, medication, garments, hospital stay, follow-up appointments, and treatment of complications. Also budget for travel, accommodation, help during recovery, time away from work, and follow-up after returning to the United States.
Ask what happens if the operation must be changed after an in-person examination, if extra hospital nights are needed, or if a revision becomes necessary. A low initial price is less useful when the contract leaves those costs undefined.
Verify the facility and surgeon
China's National Health Commission requires a medical-aesthetic provider to hold a Medical Institution Practice License and operate within its registered treatment scope. The rules also require the physician responsible for cosmetic surgery to be registered and to have relevant clinical experience and training. Patients should verify both the institution and the individual surgeon rather than relying on social-media advertising or an agent's description.
Price does not establish surgical quality, aesthetic judgment, or whether a procedure is appropriate for an individual patient. Review the surgeon's experience with the specific operation, discuss realistic goals and risks, and make sure there is a clear plan for complications and long-term follow-up before paying a deposit or arranging travel.
